I want to tell you a story of how volunteers have saved my friends from starving to death. Both of my friends are women from Kyiv. They have chronic health conditions, a broken phone and a credit card which got blocked just before the war broke out; and they weren’t strong enough to walk to the nearest humanitarian aid center to get help. They were surviving on meager supplies (a week’s worth) that I was able to ship to them with the help of a volunteer taxi driver.

Then my friend wrote to me saying that their situation was getting dire…

Through Facebook I asked if anybody could get them a phone from a humanitarian stockpile. One of my friends who was volunteering around the city responded that he found a phone. Then volunteers delivered food to them, and medications for chronic conditions. They even managed to give them a bit of money. It was just a miracle. Just a miracle.
